February 8, 2022 The Recovery Platform (TRP) is partnering with the Medical Society of Delaware (MSD) to fulfill the requirements of the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH) Opioid Response Team State Opioid Response (SOR) grant in implementing and managing universal screening tools at primary care practice locations.
Nearly 21 million Americans have at least one substance use disorder yet only 10% of them receive treatment. Additionally, 68 percent of patients have at least one adversarial social determinant of health. Opioid Use Disorder related deaths have exponentially increased between 1999 and 2017 for both Delaware and the country. However, the rate in Delaware has been significantly higher than the national rate since 2007 and this disparity continues to increase.
“The Medical Society of Delaware and our subsidiary, the MedNet physician network are proud to work with TRP to turn these statistics around. A generous grant from the State of Delaware will provide valuable assistance. In partnership with TRP, MSD is enlisting primary care and women’s health practices that will be in the lead in getting ahead of this epidemic. Our exciting and innovative collaborative efforts will create and implement universal screening tools. We plan to assess the results of screening for acuity and track associated referrals and ultimately treatment across all project sites. We are excited to have TRP’s expertise in mental health screening and treatment participating with this grant. Our MedNet providers will have a partner in TRP that will provide a high level of organization to the project and lead to high expectations for a successful screening and treatment program,” said Dr. Matthew J. Burday, President of the Medical Society of Delaware.
TRP will leverage its technology and experience in building virtual care teams to help Delaware decrease opioid overdoses statewide and to identify and engage high-risk populations according to their social determinants of health. Specifically, TRP, MedNet, and the Medical Society of Delaware will endeavor to increase access to care and treatment for individuals living with medical health disorders, including substance use disorder, by fostering system-wide screening improvement based on a framework that measures client outcomes. “We are thrilled to have been invited by the Medical Society to bring our unique approach to mental health screening to Delaware,” says TRP’s CTO Reynold Yordy. He added that “this project creates an opportunity to also offer Delaware our primary service of virtual Medication Assisted Treatment via MedNet for those identified with substance use disorders”.
